Kazuo Shiraga was invited to create this work for the Official Arts Portfolio celebrating the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympic Games. "Passionate Winner" exhibits the bold, explosive energy that has made Shiraga the most celebrated of the Gutai group of post-WWII Japanese artists, who sought an art of complete newness and freedom following the devastation of the war experience.
