In their various incarnations since the early 20th century, China's red flags have represented notions of strength and desire to build a brighter future. Qin Fengling says that these ideas have generally been linked to men. In this work, studded with thousands of tiny female figures, she wants to address women's important need for a similar spirit of hope and enthusiasm with regard to their own lives.
